Issues:

• PUCKS
  • Shana at Spyglass is a little behind in cleaning.  We need LAF's and SH1's by Monday.  Shana has  been notified and will have everything by Friday (tomorrow).

• Does RNA-Later kill DA reagents?
  • Tina and Greg have been working on this and do not think so.  Even 1% solution (=strong) does not seem to inhibit the reaction.  But they are testing under different atmospheric conditions than would be encountered in the can.  Thus, needs can testing.  Chris S. to call Greg and talk about using/not using RNA-Later on the two BioSpace machines, which would provide and in situ empirical test of this hypothesis.

• BIOSPACE DEPLOYMENT.
  • Much discussion about getting water for Vanessa and how we can collect samples for her.  Looks like Zephyr will get to M0 twice/day, so arrangements will not be difficult. 
  • There is the potential we can deploy all 3 machines in one day.  Scott to talk to Kim R. and Eric about this; also will check with Aaron when Zephyr returns.
  • We have batteries, and Paul setting up for box preparation.
  • Moe at M0, Bruce at Santa Cruz, Mack in bight.
  • Bruce and Moe get canned MONDAY.  Radio check then; if problems, Brent in Tuesday to fix.
  • LISST mounting on Bruce under CTD.
  • Monday bases get set up in high-bay.
  • Waiting to hear from Chris P on whether a post-QC run is necessary; we need to get the archives out and stored.
• ISMS
  • ISMS will be on MARS deployment Nov 30, 2010.
  • We plan on Pete doing development to take 48V power.
  • Scott working on mounting web-relay switch.

• D-ESP
  • IEP issues.  Doug ordering new type of piston IEP pump.  Waiting on PO approval.
  • Needs to be mechanical adjustment of Gordon's elevator.  too close to bottom of SC.
  • Sphere will be closed NOV 17 for Nov 30 deployment.
    • Much discussion over power requirements for D-ESP on Juan de Fuca next summer.  Powering ISMS causing concern.  Following are options:
      • get ISMS to power cycle, so it's only 'on' while taking a reading
      • develop new, lower power ISMS (Harvard would do this)
      • have additional battery elevator that would allow battery swapping and recharging on deck.
      • ISMS rides on and is powered by the ROV
      • ISMS carries its own power (Li?).
    • If no ISMS on D-ESP, charging would be greatly shortened, freeing up ROV for other operations.
    • If ISMS on elevator and using D-ESP power, worry is that bad weather, for instance, causes us to leave, and the ISMS will suck batteries dry, killing entire experiment.
    • This will get extensive discussion at AGU when we meet with Pete.

• Clamp re-design
  • all parts are in and we can start testing at any time.
  • currently will run puck evac at lower pressure and see if there are dribbles.  This seems most conservative solution, not requiring hardware and minimal software change.

• WHOI spring deployment

• • many, many unknowns about their deployment strategy.  Gumby hose to pump surface water down to ESP, as well as surface expression (is it a mooring controller?) and radio comms to shore are all still under development.
  • Chris S. to call Don and let him know these issues potentially jeopardize the entire mission.
  • Will also check to see whether EOM guys are coming  to visit MBARI.

• CTD--Bob Herlien has found the smoking gun in the newer firmware of the CTD's.  He will train our software to ignore, and must back test against earlier versions of the CTD.  That should be finished next week.

Machines

Bruce

Problem seems to be solved; have repaired the finger temp sensor.  3 good DA runs so far.

Mack

Was deployed around 12:30pm on Sep 14.  Glitch at beginning so did not start its mission until 6pm.  Drifter moving SSW ~20cm/sec.  Discovered that Drifter data not being logged internally; must have radio contact to see data.

MOE

Vanessa re-running standards over the weekend.  Both MOE and Bruce to be canned Monday.
